Collect logs for [[AppleCare]]:
- On the affected machine:
- Install both profiles provided (MegaWiFI and NetworkDiagnostic)
- Reboot the device
- Start a [[network trace using tcpdump]] or Wireshark
- On an other device sitting near the affected machine:
- Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the menu bar while pressing the option key
- Select “Open Wireless Diagnostics”
- From the “Window” menu select “Sniffer”
- Select settings that apply and hit “Start”
- On the affected machine:
- Follow the steps given in the pdf attached to enable WiFi logging and capture
- Enabling Logging
- Using the Wi-Fi menu:
- Option click on the Wi-Fi menu icon at the top right corner of the menu bar.
- Select ‘Enable Wi-Fi Logging’.
- Reproduce the Wi-Fi issue.
- Choose Create Diagnostics Report.
- Wait for the Wi-Fi Diagnostics report to finish (this may take as much as ten minutes).
- When the Diagnostic is complete, a Finder window with the path /var/tmp should appear in the Finder.
- Within this folder, you should see a file that is named similar to the example below but with a current date and time stamp: WirelessDiagnostics_XXXXXXXXXXXX_YYYY-MM-DD_HH.MM.SS.tar.gz
- Attach the WirelessDiagnostics file to your report.
- Note: If you don’t see the /var/tmp folder appear in the Finder after 10 minutes, click the Finder’s Go menu and select [[Go to Folder]]…. Then enter "/var/tmp” without the quotes into the text area that appears, followed by the enter key. The Finder window should open.
- Stop the network trace
- On the other device:
- Stop the sniffer trace on the monitoring machine. The captured pcap will be located in /var/tmp which you can access from the Finder ( Go > Go to Folder…).
